The district in brief

El Montazah I is the eastern part of the city of Alexandria, between the sea and the Mahmoudiya canal. Its northern edge is El Geish Road along the beaches of Sidi Bishr and El Seyouf, between El Iqbal Street and Street 45; from there it runs south across Mustafa Kamel Street and the International Road to the villages of Khourshid and El Tawfikiya and the limits of Kafr El Dawwar.

The district holds nine shiakhas: four in the city, on or near the sea (Sidi Bishr Bahari and Qibli, El Seyouf Bahari, and El Seyouf Qibli and Darbala) and five in the rural hinterland (El Mansheya El Bahariya, El Mohagerin, El Qardahi, El Tawfikiya and Khourshid El Bahariya). Four villages, with their hamlets, also fall under it.1

The district headquarters stands on Malek Hefny Street, facing Sidi Bishr Square. It houses the technology citizen service centre, among the first in the Ministry of Local Development’s system in 2019. The district’s 2023 list names thirteen public and premium beaches on its coast, and it holds the Sidi Bishr Mosque, from the 19th century.

  2. El Montazah District

    1982

El Montazah was separated from the East District in 1982 to become a district in its own right, with a rural hinterland of villages, hamlets and farmland.

    1986

The district’s present headquarters building went up in 1986, on Malek Hefny Street facing Sidi Bishr Square.

  4. E-government

    2003–2005

El Montazah launched full e-government at the end of 2003, together with its website, which won the State Award for websites in 2005.

  5. Two districts

Prime Ministerial decree 1189 of 2013 created El Montazah II out of El Montazah District, and the old district became El Montazah I.

Our priorities

Four commitments that govern the district’s day-to-day decisions.

  1. Automated, understandable service

Residents should know the documents their service needs before they visit the technology centre, and find the Local Government Services desk, electronic payment and a numbered queue waiting for them.

  2. An open door every Wednesday

The weekly public meeting at the district headquarters, where residents’ complaints and requests are heard and followed up until they are resolved.

  3. The countryside is part of the district

Service should reach the hamlets of the rural hinterland as it reaches Sidi Bishr: medical convoys, road paving, canal clearing and mosquito spraying.

  4. Beaches for everyone

Clean, safe beaches in summer, from El Saraya to Miami and Gezirat El Dahab, with daily checks on crowding and cleanliness.
