The school dropout committee looks at causes and remedies

Recommendations included more work by school social workers, closer contact with parents, and a survey of areas that need new schools.

The committee on reducing school dropout held its monthly meeting, chaired by Mohamed Soliman, deputy head of the El Montazah I educational administration, with representatives of the education authorities and specialists.

It reviewed the causes of dropout, among them economic hardship, low family awareness, some health issues and learning difficulties, and discussed having school social workers follow pupils at risk, closer contact with parents, support for pupils who cannot afford school, and a database to find pupils who have stopped attending and bring them back.

The head of the district’s population unit recommended a survey of the areas that need new schools and a timetable for carrying out and following up the recommendations.
